The BONEHAM H166EC is a Type H press fit headed drill bushing designed to guide drill bits with precision in jig and fixture applications. It features an inside diameter of 0.136 inches (wire size No. 29) and a body outside diameter of 0.25 inches, with a length under head of 0.375 inches. Manufactured from steel with a hardness rating of 60 to 65 HRC, this bushing is built to withstand repeated drilling cycles without deforming. Machinists, toolmakers, and jig builders install this type of bushing directly into a drill jig plate using press fit installation, requiring no additional locking hardware.
Type H headed drill bushings are used in production drilling, reaming, and spotfacing operations where a shoulder is needed to seat the bushing flush against or slightly above the jig plate surface. The headed design prevents the bushing from being pushed through the plate under axial load. This bushing is suited for use in ferrous and non-ferrous workpiece applications where consistent hole location is critical. It is not a renewable bushing, making it appropriate for fixed, high-volume jig setups where the bushing remains permanently installed.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-fit component for drill jigs and fixtures requiring a Type H press fit headed bushing per ANSI standards.
Press fit bushings are installed by toolmakers and machinist trades using an arbor press or hydraulic press — never hammer directly on the head, as this can crack or deform the bushing. The jig plate bore should be machined to the appropriate interference fit tolerance before installation. Verify inside diameter clearance against the intended drill or reamer before pressing in, as this is a non-renewable bushing and removal typically damages the bushing. Follow shop standard practices and ANSI B94.33 guidelines for drill bushing installation and jig design.
