The ARNOLD SH-483 is a replacement engine starter handle and cord assembly designed for small engine recoil starter systems. The kit includes an 88-inch length of No. 4, 1/8-inch diameter solid nylon starter cord paired with a rubber grip handle and a steel handle insert for added durability. This type of component is commonly replaced by small engine technicians and experienced DIYers during routine recoil starter rebuilds or after cord breakage. The rubber handle provides a firm grip during pull-starting, while the solid nylon cord offers consistent tensile strength under repeated recoil loads.
This starter handle and cord assembly is suited for residential and light commercial small engine equipment where the original recoil starter rope has frayed, snapped, or become too short to function reliably. Typical applications include walk-behind lawn mowers, tillers, snow blowers, generators, and similar pull-start equipment. It is installed during recoil starter servicing on equipment requiring a No. 4 diameter starter cord. The ARNOLD SH-483 is sold as a complete handle-and-cord set, simplifying the repair process by providing both components together.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement starter handle and cord for small pull-start engines requiring No. 4, 1/8-inch diameter recoil starter rope.
Installation is performed by small engine technicians or qualified DIYers during recoil starter service. Before replacing the starter cord, disconnect the spark plug wire to prevent accidental engine start. Thread the new cord through the recoil starter housing and handle according to the equipment manufacturer's service documentation. Do not force the cord through tight passages, as fraying at the entry point will shorten service life.
