The ACCUPRO T2640162 is a spiral point plug tap designed for cutting 4-40 UNC internal threads in steel and similar materials. Built from HSS-E vanadium high speed steel with a 3% vanadium content, it delivers improved wear resistance over standard HSS taps. The bright, uncoated finish suits general-purpose tapping where lubrication is applied at the point of cut. With 2 flutes and a plug chamfer, this tap pushes chips forward ahead of the cutting edge, making it well suited for through-hole applications. The H2 thread limit and 2B/3B class of fit meet standard fastener-tolerance requirements. Installed by machinists and maintenance trades in manual or CNC tapping operations.
This tap is intended for through-hole tapping in steel workpieces where a 4-40 thread is required. The spiral point geometry drives chips forward rather than backing them out, which keeps the flutes clear during continuous feed operations. At 1.87 inches overall length with an 11 mm thread length and a 3.58 mm shank diameter, it fits standard 4-40 tap holders and collets used in bench drill presses, tapping heads, and CNC machining centers. Right-hand thread direction matches standard 4-40 fastener orientation. No coolant-through capability; cutting fluid should be applied externally.
Designed for cutting 4-40 UNC threads in steel applications. Fits standard tap holders and collets sized for the 3.58 mm shank diameter. Right-hand thread direction only.
This tap is installed by machinists or maintenance trades using a drill press, tapping arm, or CNC machining center. Ensure the tap drill hole is properly sized for a 4-40 thread prior to tapping. Apply a suitable cutting fluid externally before and during the tapping operation; no coolant-through feature is present. Secure the workpiece fully before engaging the tap to prevent thread misalignment or tap breakage.
