The ACCUPRO 12178643 is a single-end corner radius end mill ground from micrograin solid carbide and coated with AlTiN for heat resistance in demanding milling operations. It features a 3/8 inch cutting diameter, a 0.01 inch corner radius, and 5 flutes with a variable index design to reduce harmonic vibration during cut. The 5/8 inch length of cut and 2 inch overall length make it suited for finishing and semi-finishing passes in ferrous and hardened materials. It is right-hand cutting with right-hand spiral flutes and is center-cutting, allowing direct plunge entry. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals working in CNC machining centers are the primary installers of this tool.
This end mill is designed for use in vertical and horizontal CNC milling applications where a controlled corner radius is required to reduce stress concentration at part features. The AlTiN coating performs well in dry or minimum-quantity-lubrication cutting of alloy steels, stainless steels, titanium, and hardened materials. The 3/8 inch shank diameter fits standard ER collet chucks, end mill holders, and shrink-fit tooling systems common in production and job-shop environments. The variable index flute spacing helps suppress chatter in difficult-to-machine materials and deep-pocket applications.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-fit cutting tool for 3/8 inch straight shank toolholders including ER collet chucks, end mill holders, and shrink-fit holders used in CNC vertical and horizontal machining centers.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the control is in a safe state before loading or unloading the tool. Seat the shank fully into the holder to the recommended minimum engagement depth and torque the retention mechanism per the toolholder manufacturer specifications. Inspect the corner radius and cutting edges for chips or wear before each setup to confirm tool integrity.
