The ACCUPRO 12177422 is a 6-flute solid carbide square end mill designed for high-performance milling in demanding shop environments. It measures 0.5 inches in diameter with a 0.625-inch length of cut, a 0.5-inch shank diameter, and a 2.5-inch overall length. The tool features a 45-degree helix angle and an AlTiN (Aluminum Titanium Nitride) finish that supports elevated cutting temperatures and extends tool life in ferrous and hardened materials. Built from micrograin carbide, this end mill is suited for finish and semi-finish milling passes where dimensional accuracy and surface quality are critical. It is installed and operated by machinists and tool-and-die professionals in CNC machining centers and manual mills.
This end mill is well suited for slot milling, profiling, and contouring in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and similar hard materials. The centercutting geometry allows it to plunge directly into a workpiece, making it a practical choice for pocketing operations without a pre-drilled entry point. The right-hand cut and right-hand spiral flute configuration is standard for conventional and climb milling on vertical machining centers. It is a single-end tool, so the full flute length and cutting edge geometry are optimized for one working end.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use end mill for CNC vertical machining centers and manual mills accepting a 0.5-inch straight shank collet or end mill holder.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following shop safety procedures. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and locked before inserting or removing the tool from the holder. Use a properly sized collet or end mill holder rated for the 0.5-inch shank diameter and torque the retention nut to the toolholder manufacturer specification. Verify runout with a dial indicator after tool change to confirm proper seating before beginning a cut.
