The ACCUPRO 11645-00T is a thread forming tap designed for 8-32 UNC through-hole threading applications. Unlike cutting taps, thread forming taps displace material rather than cut it, producing stronger threads with no chips to clear. This tap is manufactured from powdered metal high-speed steel and carries a Titanium Nitride (TiN) coating for extended tool life and reduced friction during tapping. The plug chamfer style features 4 chamfered threads, making it suitable for through-hole applications where the tap can pass fully through the workpiece. Machinists and tool and die tradespeople working on fastener assemblies, fixture work, and precision components will find this tap appropriate for production and repair use.
This tap is intended for through-hole threading operations on ductile metals where cold-forming thread geometry is preferred over cutting. The 8-32 UNC thread size is a standard coarse-thread designation widely used in electrical enclosures, light mechanical assemblies, and instrumentation hardware. The right-hand thread direction and Class 2B fit make it compatible with standard UNC fastener assemblies. The plug chamfer allows the tap to start easily in a pre-drilled hole and follow through completely, which is the standard approach for through-hole work on production lines and bench setups alike.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use thread forming tap for 8-32 UNC through-hole threading in ductile metal workpieces requiring a Class 2B, H5 thread limit fit.
Thread forming taps require a proper tap drill size for the specific material being tapped — consult a thread forming drill chart before drilling the pilot hole, as the required drill diameter differs from cutting tap specifications. Use a suitable tapping fluid or cutting oil rated for the workpiece material to protect both the tap and the formed thread. Secure the workpiece firmly before tapping and maintain axial alignment throughout to avoid tap breakage. This tool is intended for use by machinists and qualified tradespeople familiar with hand or machine tapping procedures.
