The ACCUPRO 11285-01C is a thread forming tap designed for creating internal 6-32 UNC threads in blind holes without cutting or removing material. Rather than cutting flutes, thread forming taps displace material to produce stronger, work-hardened threads with no chips to clear. This tap is manufactured from powdered metal high speed steel and features a TiCN (titanium carbonitride) coating that reduces friction and extends tool life in production environments. The bottoming chamfer style allows threading close to the bottom of a blind hole, making it well suited for tight-tolerance assemblies. It is used by machinists, tool and die makers, and maintenance technicians across light manufacturing and precision fabrication shops.
This tap is intended for blind hole threading applications where chip evacuation is not practical or where thread strength is a priority. The 6-32 UNC thread size is common in electronics enclosures, instrument panels, and small mechanical assemblies. The bottoming chamfer with 2.5 chamfered threads allows the tap to reach maximum thread depth in shallow blind holes. Right-hand thread direction is standard for conventional fastener installations. This tap is sold as a single unit and is suited for both manual and machine tapping operations where controlled torque is applied.
Designed for blind hole threading in materials compatible with thread forming operations, including low-carbon steel, aluminum, brass, and similar ductile metals. Sized for 6-32 UNC 2B class of fit applications.
Thread forming taps require the correct drill size for the specific material and thread form — consult a thread forming drill chart before drilling the pilot hole, as the required hole diameter differs from standard cut tap recommendations. Use appropriate tapping fluid or cutting oil for the workpiece material. When machine tapping, use a torque-limiting holder or tapping attachment to avoid tap breakage at this small diameter. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured before beginning the tapping operation.
