The SOUTHLAND 511-203HN is a 1/2 inch galvanized malleable iron pipe coupling designed for joining threaded pipe sections in plumbing, mechanical, and light industrial piping systems. Manufactured from malleable iron to ANSI/ASTM A-197 material standards, this coupling offers the ductility needed to resist cracking under mechanical stress. The hot-dip galvanized finish provides corrosion resistance for both indoor and outdoor installations. Threads conform to ANSI B1.20.1 for reliable engagement with standard NPT-threaded pipe. Each fitting is 100 percent inspected and quality tested before shipment, and the Mueller logo is cast directly into the body for brand identification. Plumbers and pipefitters are the primary installers of this fitting type.
This coupling is suited for residential and commercial plumbing, hydronic heating, gas distribution, and general mechanical piping applications where galvanized iron fittings are specified. The 1/2 inch size fits common branch and main line piping found throughout residential rough-in and retrofit work. It is sold individually, making it a practical replacement or add-on for service calls requiring a single fitting. Applications span potable water supply, compressed air, and low-pressure steam systems where galvanized malleable iron is an accepted material.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting compatible with standard 1/2 inch NPT-threaded galvanized, black iron, or Schedule 40 steel pipe in residential and commercial piping systems.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter in accordance with applicable local plumbing codes and IFGC requirements where gas service is involved. Shut off the water, gas, or air supply and depressurize the line fully before disassembling existing fittings. Apply an approved thread sealant or PTFE tape to male threads before making up the joint. Do not overtighten, as malleable iron threads can be damaged by excessive torque applied with power tools.
