The MSA SAFETY 10154079 is a portable single-gas detector in the ALTAIR 2X series, engineered to detect ammonia in industrial and commercial environments. It uses an XCell two-tox sensor with a detection range of 0 to 20 ppm and a resolution of 0.1 ppm, delivering reliable readings without requiring a second standalone detector. The unit produces a digital output signal that minimizes cross-channel interference, which is critical in multi-gas environments. Licensed safety professionals, industrial hygienists, and maintenance technicians rely on this detector for routine gas monitoring and confined-space entry protocols.
This detector is suited for applications where ammonia exposure is a hazard, including refrigeration plants, food processing facilities, water treatment operations, and chemical handling areas. The operating temperature range of -40 to 140 degrees F makes it functional across cold storage environments and high-heat industrial settings alike. Its compact, rugged form factor supports use by workers who need a hands-free personal monitor during daily rounds or entry into permit-required confined spaces.
Designed as an OEM ALTAIR 2X series portable gas detector for ammonia monitoring applications; verify sensor compatibility and calibration gas requirements before deployment.
This detector is deployed and maintained by qualified safety personnel or industrial hygienists following site-specific confined-space entry procedures and OSHA 29 CFR 1910.146 requirements where applicable. Before sensor replacement or calibration service, power down the unit per the manufacturer procedure and allow the sensor to equilibrate in a clean-air environment. Calibration should be performed using the correct ammonia calibration gas concentration for the target range. Do not expose the sensor to ammonia concentrations beyond the rated range, as this may damage or saturate the XCell sensor element.
