The EWC CONTROLS ECLBD-10 is a constant load bypass damper designed to maintain balanced static pressure in zoned HVAC duct systems. When zone dampers close and system pressure rises, the ECLBD-10 opens automatically to divert excess airflow back to the return or a dump zone, protecting the air handler or furnace blower from operating against excessive static pressure. This type of component is installed by HVAC technicians as part of a multi-zone forced-air system and is a critical element in keeping equipment operating within designed airflow parameters.
The ECLBD-10 is suited for residential and light commercial zoning applications where a constant-volume air handler or furnace serves multiple independently controlled zones. It maintains consistent blower load regardless of how many zone dampers are open at any given time, reducing stress on the heat exchanger, blower motor, and ductwork. Installation is typically in the supply plenum or a dedicated bypass duct running back to the return plenum.
Designed as an OEM-style bypass damper for use in zoned residential and light commercial forced-air HVAC systems requiring constant-load pressure relief.
Installation should be performed by a licensed HVAC technician familiar with zoning system design and duct pressure balancing. Power down the air handler and all zone control equipment before beginning any duct or damper work. The bypass damper must be sized and positioned according to the zoning system manufacturer guidelines to ensure proper pressure relief without short-circuiting conditioned air. Follow local mechanical codes and ACCA Manual Zr guidelines for bypass damper placement and sizing.
