The YG-1 L1503 is a spiral point plug tap designed for through-hole threading in a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Manufactured from high-speed steel (HSS) with a Hardslick coating, it produces a 3/8-24 UNF thread to a 3B class of fit with an H3 thread limit. The spiral point geometry pushes chips forward ahead of the cut, making it well suited for through-hole applications where chip evacuation must be kept ahead of the tap. With an overall length of 2.9375 inches, a thread length of 1.25 inches, and a shank diameter of 0.381 inches, this tap fits standard tap holders and machine spindles used in production and jobsite environments. Right-hand cutting direction. Series L1.
The L1503 is intended for through-hole tapping operations on materials including carbon steel, stainless steel, chilled cast iron, nodular cast iron, ductile iron, and aluminum cast alloy. It is a practical choice for machining centers, drill presses, and manual tapping work where a consistent UNF thread is required. The 3-flute design provides a balance of chip clearance and cutting edge support across these material types. Coolant-through capability is not available on this tap, so flood or mist coolant delivery should be applied externally when tapping stainless or cast iron to maintain tool life.
Designed for through-hole tapping in carbon steel, stainless steel, chilled cast iron, nodular cast iron, ductile iron, and aluminum cast alloy. Fits standard tap holders accepting a 0.381-inch shank diameter.
This tap should be installed by a machinist or qualified technician using a properly sized tap holder or collet matched to the 0.381-inch shank. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the spindle or tap driver is aligned axially with the drilled hole before engagement. Power down or disengage the machine spindle before changing or inspecting the tap. Apply appropriate cutting fluid externally, particularly when working with stainless steel or cast iron, to reduce heat buildup and extend tool life.
