The YG-1 H8283 is a spiral flute tap designed for cutting 8-32 UNC internal threads in steel workpieces. It features a modified bottoming chamfer, which allows threading close to the bottom of a blind hole while still providing enough lead to start the thread cleanly. The tap is manufactured from powdered metal and carries a Hardslick coating that reduces friction and built-up edge during the cutting cycle. With 3 right-hand flutes oriented in a slow-helix spiral at a 10-degree angle, the tool evacuates chips upward out of the hole, making it well suited for through-hole and moderate-depth blind-hole applications in ferrous materials.
This tap is intended for production and maintenance machining environments where threading steel components to a 2B class of fit is required. The H3 thread limit keeps finished thread tolerances in the mid-to-high range of the 2B tolerance band, which suits general-purpose fastener assemblies. Typical applications include threading tapped holes in steel brackets, housings, fixtures, and structural weldments using a CNC machining center, tapping head, or manual tap wrench. The 8-32 UNC thread form is common in light-duty mechanical assemblies, instrument panels, and electrical enclosures.
Designed for tapping steel workpieces (primary workpiece material code P) to an 8-32 UNC, 2B class of fit specification. Coolant-through spindle capability is not required.
This tap is installed and used by machinists and maintenance technicians working with manual tap wrenches, tapping heads, or CNC machining centers. Before tapping, confirm the correct drill size for the 8-32 thread and ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured. Use an appropriate tapping fluid or cutting oil when threading steel to protect the cutting edges and the Hardslick coating. Do not reverse the tap aggressively without backing off to break chips, and never force the tap against a bottomed hole without verifying depth clearance.
