The YG-1 D1GP138248 is a jobber-length twist drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling in steel and similar ferrous workpiece materials. It carries a wire gauge size of 9, with a decimal diameter of 0.196 inches and an overall length of 3.625 inches. The bit is manufactured from high speed steel with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating to extend tool life and reduce friction at the cutting edge. A 118-degree split point tip self-centers on contact, reducing the need for a center punch on most workpiece surfaces. Two right-hand spiral flutes with a regular helix evacuate chips efficiently during through-hole and blind-hole drilling operations.
This drill bit is suited for production and maintenance drilling in steel stock, fabricated components, and structural material. The straight cylindrical shank accepts standard three-jaw chucks on corded drills, drill presses, and CNC spindles without requiring a collet adapter. With a flute length of 2.4375 inches and a maximum recommended drilling depth matching that flute length, it handles the majority of jobber-depth holes encountered in sheet metal, plate, and light structural work. The general-purpose grade makes it a practical bench and toolbox staple for machinists, millwrights, pipefitters, and maintenance technicians.
Designed as a general-purpose jobber-length drill bit compatible with any standard 3-jaw chuck or drill press spindle accepting a 0.196-inch straight shank, used across ferrous metal drilling applications in industrial and maintenance settings.
Secure the workpiece firmly before drilling and ensure the chuck is tightened fully on the shank to prevent slippage. Power down the drill or press and disconnect energy sources before changing bits. Use appropriate cutting fluid on steel to manage heat buildup during extended drilling cycles. Inspect the cutting edges and TiN coating before each use and replace the bit if chipping or excessive wear is present.
