The YG-1 38601 is a solid carbide ball end mill designed for both roughing and finishing operations in aluminum and non-ferrous materials. Built from micrograin carbide and left bright/uncoated, it carries a 1/8 inch mill diameter with a 3/16 inch length of cut and a 40-degree high helix angle that promotes efficient chip evacuation in softer, gummy alloys. The extended reach configuration, combined with a reduced neck diameter of 0.1170 inches, allows access to deeper features without sacrificing rigidity. This is a single-end, right-hand cutting and right-hand flute tool with a ball nose geometry suited to 3D contouring, profiling, and detail work.
This end mill is intended for use in CNC machining centers, high-speed milling operations, and precision die work where clean surface finishes in aluminum, copper, brass, and other non-ferrous alloys are required. The 1/4 inch straight-cylindrical shank fits standard ER collet chucks and end mill holders common in shop environments. The extended reach length of 1/4 inch makes it a practical choice for pocketing, slotting, and contour milling where standard-length tools cannot reach the workpiece feature.
Designed for use in CNC machining centers and manual mills equipped with 1/4 inch straight-shank collet chucks or end mill holders. Primary workpiece material compatibility is aluminum and non-ferrous alloys per the YG-1 Series E5975 specification.
Installation and operation of this tool should be performed by qualified machinists familiar with CNC or manual milling equipment. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a safe, locked-out state before loading or changing the tool. Seat the 1/4 inch shank fully in the collet or holder and tighten to the toolholder manufacturer's specified torque range. Verify runout at the tool tip before beginning a cut, as excessive runout at this diameter will accelerate wear and degrade surface finish.
