The YG-1 28593 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for high-performance material removal in aluminum and non-ferrous metals. The cutter features a 1/2-inch diameter, a 1-1/4-inch length of cut, and a 45-degree helix angle that promotes efficient chip evacuation and reduces built-up edge when machining soft, gummy materials. With three flutes and a micrograin carbide substrate, the 28593 delivers a balance of rigidity and cutting efficiency suited to CNC milling centers and manual mills alike. The bright/uncoated finish is well matched to aluminum, copper, brass, and similar non-ferrous workpiece materials where coatings can cause material adhesion.
This end mill is intended for use in shops performing general-purpose profiling, slotting, and peripheral milling of aluminum and non-ferrous stock. The single-end, straight-shank design fits standard ER and side-lock toolholders. It is a regular-length tool suited to setups where extended reach is not required. Machinists, CNC programmers, and toolroom technicians working in production or job-shop environments will find this tool appropriate for finishing and light roughing passes in non-ferrous applications.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement for standard 1/2-inch straight-shank square end mill applications in ER collet chucks, side-lock holders, and shrink-fit toolholders accepting a 1/2-inch shank diameter. Primary workpiece materials are aluminum and non-ferrous metals (material code N).
Installation and tool changes should be performed with the machine spindle fully stopped and the control in an appropriate safe state per shop lockout/tagout procedures. Confirm collet or toolholder bore is clean and free of chips before seating the shank to the recommended engagement depth. Because this end mill is not centercutting, avoid direct plunge entry into solid material - use a pre-drilled hole or a ramping or helical entry path to reach depth. Verify runout at the cutting diameter after clamping to maintain tolerances within the specified mill diameter tolerance range.
