The YG-1 28584 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision material removal in light machining and finishing operations. Built from micrograin carbide, this single-end tool runs a 3-flute, right-hand spiral geometry with a 45-degree helix angle. The bright uncoated finish makes it well-suited for non-ferrous metals such as aluminum, brass, copper, and similar soft alloys where coating buildup or heat transfer can be a concern. The 3/8-inch cutting diameter matches the straight cylindrical shank diameter, keeping the tool profile straightforward and compatible with standard collet and end mill holders. It is installed and used by machinists and CNC operators working on mills and machining centers.
This end mill is intended for non-ferrous metal applications in both production and job-shop environments. The 45-degree helix promotes smooth chip evacuation on aluminum and other gummy materials, reducing recutting and heat buildup at the cutting edge. The regular-length geometry and 1-inch length of cut make it practical for slotting, profiling, and pocketing operations where a compact, rigid tool is preferred over extended-reach configurations. Typical use cases include aerospace component work, prototype machining, and general-purpose non-ferrous stock removal on vertical mills and CNC machining centers.
Designed as a standard-shank replacement end mill for use in any collet or end mill holder accepting a 3/8-inch straight cylindrical shank, consistent with Series E5981 tooling specifications for non-ferrous milling applications.
Installation is performed by a machinist or CNC setup technician. The machine spindle must be fully stopped and the tool-change mode engaged before seating or removing the tool from its holder. Collet runout should be verified with a dial indicator after seating to stay within the mill diameter tolerance of 0.0000 to -0.0005 inches. Because this tool is not center-cutting, avoid direct plunge moves into solid material - use ramping or helical interpolation entry paths to protect the cutting edges.
