The YG-1 01301 is a single-end, square-profile cobalt end mill designed for metal removal in milling applications. Ground from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, it holds an edge longer than standard HSS tooling, particularly in abrasive or work-hardening materials. The cutter measures 5/16 inch in diameter with a 9/16-inch length of cut and a 2-5/16-inch overall length. Two right-hand spiral flutes at a 30-degree helix angle clear chips efficiently and reduce cutting forces on lighter setups. This tool is center-cutting, meaning it can be used for plunge entry as well as peripheral milling. The bright uncoated finish suits general-purpose use and allows easy visual inspection of the cutting edge.
This end mill is suited for machining steel, aluminum, and non-ferrous metals in job shop, maintenance, and production environments. The 3/8-inch Weldon flat shank locks securely in a set-screw holder, reducing pullout risk during side-load operations. It is a standard regular-length geometry, appropriate for open-pocket, slot, and profile milling on manual mills, knee mills, and CNC machining centers where tool length and rigidity are not limiting factors. Primary workpiece materials include steel and aluminum and other non-ferrous alloys.
Designed as a general-purpose replacement or new-install end mill for standard 3/8-inch Weldon flat shank tool holders used on manual and CNC milling machines. Primary workpiece materials are steel and aluminum and non-ferrous alloys per the manufacturer specification.
Installation is performed by a machinist or toolroom technician. Seat the Weldon flat against the set screw in the holder before torquing to prevent axial slip. Confirm spindle speed and feed rate are appropriate for the workpiece material and cutter diameter before starting the cut. Inspect the cutting edges for chips or wear before each use, as cobalt tooling can micro-chip if run at incorrect parameters.
