The XTRWELD WTZIRC3187 is a 3/16-inch zirconiated tungsten electrode designed for gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW). Classified under AWS EWZr-1, it contains a minimum of 99.10 percent tungsten and 0.15 to 0.40 percent zirconium. That zirconium content produces an exceptionally stable arc and significantly reduces tungsten spitting during the weld. The electrode retains a balled tip profile through the weld cycle and carries current at levels equal to or greater than thoriated tungsten. Each pack includes 5 electrodes, identified by a brown color code. Licensed welders and certified pipe welders performing AC TIG work will find this electrode well suited to their process requirements.
This electrode is engineered strictly for AC welding applications. The zirconiated formulation excels in situations where arc stability and contamination resistance are critical, such as aluminum and magnesium alloy work typically performed in fabrication shops, aerospace maintenance facilities, and industrial manufacturing environments. Because it retains a balled tip under AC current, it delivers consistent arc starts and a stable weld puddle throughout the pass. This electrode is not recommended for DC welding under any circumstances.
Designed for use in AC GTAW processes. Not compatible with DC welding setups. Suitable for welding aluminum, magnesium, and other materials where AC TIG is the specified process.
Installation and use of GTAW electrodes should be performed by a qualified welder or welding technician familiar with AC TIG equipment. Before changing electrodes, shut down the welding machine and allow the torch to cool completely. Follow the torch manufacturer's guidelines for collet and collet body sizing to match the 3/16-inch electrode diameter. Do not use this electrode in DC welding circuits, as zirconiated tungsten is not rated for that application.
