The XTRWELD WTPURE040 is a pure tungsten GTAW electrode designed for gas tungsten arc welding applications where AC welding is the primary process. Containing 99.50% tungsten, this electrode takes advantage of tungsten's exceptional hardness and high-temperature resistance — the highest melting point of any metal at 3,410 degrees Celsius — to carry welding current reliably to the arc. When heated, the electrode forms a clean balled tip that delivers stable arc performance. Each pack contains 10 electrodes, each measuring 7 inches in length and 0.040 inches in diameter, identified by a green color band.
Pure tungsten electrodes are well suited for AC welding with a balanced wave and AC sine wave welding, particularly on aluminum and magnesium base metals. These are a standard choice in fabrication shops, maintenance facilities, and field operations where aluminum and magnesium TIG welding is routine. Because pure tungsten does not provide the strong arc starts associated with thoriated or ceriated electrodes, it is not typically selected for DC welding applications. Licensed welders and certified welding operators working on aluminum structural, automotive, and general fabrication work will find this electrode appropriate for their process.
Designed for use in standard GTAW (TIG) torches accepting 0.040 inch diameter electrodes. Best suited for AC welding processes on aluminum and magnesium base metals. Not recommended as a direct replacement for DC welding applications.
Electrode installation and replacement should be performed by a qualified welder or welding operator with the welding machine powered down and the torch cooled before handling. Ensure the collet and collet body in the TIG torch are the correct size for a 0.040 inch electrode before installation. Follow applicable AWS and shop safety standards for electrode handling, storage, and disposal. Do not use pure tungsten electrodes as a substitute for thoriated or ceriated electrodes on DC processes.
