The XTRWELD WTPURE020 is a pure tungsten GTAW electrode designed for gas tungsten arc welding applications requiring stable arc performance on alternating current. Containing 99.50% tungsten, this electrode carries welding current to the arc by leveraging tungsten's exceptional hardness and resistance to high temperatures. Tungsten holds the highest melting point of any metal at 3,410 degrees Celsius, making it well suited for the thermal demands of the TIG welding process. Each electrode measures 7 inches in length with a 0.020 inch diameter and is identified by the standard green color code. This pack contains 10 electrodes. Licensed welders and certified TIG welding professionals are the primary installers.
The WTPURE020 is used primarily for AC TIG welding of aluminum and magnesium in both residential fabrication shops and light commercial welding environments. When heated, pure tungsten electrodes form a clean balled tip, which promotes consistent arc stability when running a balanced wave or sine wave AC output. This electrode is not recommended for DC welding, as pure tungsten does not produce the strong arc starts associated with thoriated or ceriated electrode types. Typical applications include sheet metal aluminum fabrication and magnesium alloy work where a stable, clean AC arc is required.
Designed for use with AC TIG welding machines configured for aluminum and magnesium welding, including equipment running balanced wave or sine wave AC output. Fits standard TIG torch collet bodies sized for 0.020 inch electrodes.
Pure tungsten electrodes are installed by qualified welders or certified TIG welding technicians. Ensure the welding machine is powered off and the torch is fully cooled before replacing an electrode. Grind or break the electrode end cleanly before seating it in the collet body, and tighten the collet to the torch manufacturer's specified feel to avoid cracking. Do not use these electrodes on DC polarity setups, as pure tungsten is not formulated for DC arc starts.
