The XTRWELD WTLAN15040 is a 1.5% lanthanated tungsten electrode designed for gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW). Sized at 0.040 inches in diameter and 8.25 inches in length, this gold-band electrode delivers reliable arc starting, low burnoff rate, and stable arc performance across a range of welding applications. Lanthanated tungsten shares conductivity characteristics similar to 2% thoriated electrodes, making it a practical alternative without requiring major changes to existing welding programs. Each pack contains 10 electrodes. Licensed welding professionals and fabricators working with precision TIG setups will find this electrode well suited to their workflow.
The WTLAN15040 performs on both AC and DC electrode negative (DCEN) current types. Used with a pointed end on DC or square wave AC power sources, it is effective for welding mild steel and stainless steel. It can also be balled for use with AC sine wave machines. This versatility makes it a useful option for shops that run varied material types or switch between machine configurations. Typical applications include structural fabrication, pipe welding, and precision sheet metal work where arc stability and reignition quality are critical.
Designed for use in GTAW applications on AC and DC electrode negative power sources, including square wave and AC sine wave machines. In many cases, 1.5% lanthanated electrodes can substitute for 2% thoriated electrodes without significant welding program changes.
GTAW electrodes are installed by licensed welders or qualified welding personnel following applicable AWS and shop safety procedures. Ensure the welding machine is powered off and the torch is fully cooled before replacing an electrode. Grind the electrode to the appropriate geometry for the current type and base material before use. Store unused electrodes in the original packaging to prevent contamination.
