The WILLIAMS COMFORT PRODUCTS 1-160-10-2-0 is a 10-inch square file with a second-cut tooth pattern rated at 30 teeth per inch (TPI). Square files are single-purpose cutting tools used to enlarge slots, sharpen square-cornered keyways, and dress flat or right-angle surfaces on metal workpieces. The second-cut classification places this file between a bastard cut and a smooth cut, removing material at a moderate rate while leaving a reasonably clean surface finish. Trades that work with metal fabrication, conduit fittings, pipe brackets, and equipment mounting hardware reach for a square file when a round or flat profile will not fit the work geometry.
This file is suited for bench work in HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical service environments where technicians need to clean up burrs, fit components, or open slots on ferrous and non-ferrous metals. At 10 inches, it provides enough length for controlled two-hand filing on moderate-sized workpieces. It is appropriate for both shop use and field service kits where a reliable, general-purpose square file is needed on demand.
Designed as a general-purpose square file compatible with standard file handles sized for 10-inch files used across trade and industrial applications.
Always seat the file tang fully into a properly sized handle before use to prevent hand injury from an exposed tang. Secure the workpiece in a vise before filing to maintain control and produce accurate results. File in one direction only, lifting the tool on the return stroke to preserve tooth sharpness. Do not use this file on hardened steel surfaces, as contact with hardened material will damage the teeth.
