The WIDIA 6853354 is a single-end, solid carbide square end mill designed for material removal in aluminum and non-ferrous metals. It carries a 3/8-inch cutting diameter, a 1-inch length of cut, and a 3-inch overall length. The 37-to-39-degree variable helix geometry reduces chatter and harmonic vibration during the cut, which is particularly valuable when running aluminum at higher feed rates. Three right-hand helical flutes provide a balance of chip evacuation and edge strength. The uncoated bright finish is well suited to non-ferrous applications where coatings can cause built-up edge. This end mill is installed by machinists and CNC operators working in job shop, aerospace, and general machining environments.
This end mill is intended for use in aluminum, brass, copper, and other non-ferrous materials where aggressive chip loads and clean finishes are priorities. The Series 3A09 designation identifies it within the WIDIA standard length end mill family. The straight, 3/8-inch shank fits standard ER collet chucks, hydraulic holders, and shrink-fit tooling commonly found on vertical machining centers and CNC mills. It is not centercutting and should not be used for direct plunge operations. Side milling, slotting, and peripheral profiling are the appropriate applications.
Designed for use in aluminum and non-ferrous workpiece materials. Fits any machine spindle or toolholder accepting a 3/8-inch straight shank, including ER collet systems and hydraulic chucks. Not rated for ferrous or hardened materials.
Installation is performed by a machinist or CNC setup technician. Ensure the spindle and toolholder are clean and free of runout before seating the shank. Torque the collet nut or retention mechanism per the toolholder manufacturer's specification. Confirm the machine is in an e-stop or fully powered-down state before changing tooling. Because this end mill is not centercutting, program all entry moves as ramp or helical interpolation rather than direct plunge.
