The WIDIA 6797597 is a square SNHX-style solid carbide milling insert designed for high-productivity face and shoulder milling operations. Manufactured to ISO code SNHX120408PNSRMM and ANSI code SNHX1202PNSRMM, this double-sided insert delivers 8 usable cutting edges per insert, reducing tooling cost per edge. The WP35CM grade features a multilayer MTCVD coating stack of TiN, TiCN, and Al2O3 for extended wear resistance and thermal stability. At 0.4724 inches inscribed circle diameter and 0.1813 inches thick, it fits the VSM890-12 cutter series. The negative rake geometry with chamfered and honed cutting edge preparation provides reliable performance across a wide range of machining conditions. Installation is by screw clamping in a right-hand orientation.
This insert is suited for milling steel and cast iron as primary workpiece materials, with stainless steel as a secondary application. It is appropriate for both roughing and semi-finishing passes in general metalworking and industrial production environments. The MM chip breaker geometry promotes effective chip control across varying depths of cut and feed rates. The VSM890 cutter series compatibility makes it a direct-fit replacement for shops already running that platform. Applications include face milling, shoulder milling, and pocketing in ferrous materials on CNC machining centers.
Designed for use in the WIDIA VSM890 and VSM890-12 cutter series. Primary workpiece materials are steel (ISO material code P) and cast iron (ISO material code K). Secondary workpiece material is stainless steel (ISO material code M). Conforms to ANSI and ISO insert standards.
This insert is installed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician using the screw-clamping method standard to the VSM890 toolholder platform. Ensure the cutter body pocket and clamping screw are free of chips and debris before seating the insert. Use the torque specification provided by the cutter body manufacturer for the clamping screw. Never run a damaged or chipped insert, as insert failure at speed presents a serious safety hazard.
