The WIDIA 6517124 is a single-end, solid carbide square end mill designed for high-performance milling in ferrous and difficult-to-machine materials. It carries a 5/8 inch cutting diameter with a 2-5/8 inch length of cut and runs 5 right-hand helical flutes at a 38-degree helix angle. The AlTiN coating under material grade WP15PE provides thermal resistance and wear protection during aggressive cuts in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, high-temperature alloys, and hardened materials. The 5/8 inch straight shank fits standard collet and end mill holders. This tool is installed and used by machinists and CNC operators working in job shop, aerospace, and general metalworking environments.
The 6517124 belongs to WIDIA Series 5V0C and is built for regular-length applications where a rigid, full-carbide tool body is required. It is centercutting, which allows plunge entry into workpiece material. Primary workpiece material codes P, M, K, S, and H cover carbon steel, stainless steel, cast iron, high-temperature alloys, and hardened materials respectively. The 5-inch overall length keeps the tool compact and stiff, reducing deflection during deep-slot or side-milling passes. No coolant-through channels are present, so flood or mist coolant is applied externally at the cut zone.
Designed for use in CNC machining centers and manual mills with standard 5/8 inch collet chucks or end mill holders. Rated for primary workpiece materials steel, stainless steel, cast iron, high-temperature alloys, and hardened materials per ISO material codes P, M, K, S, and H.
Installation is performed by a machinist or CNC setup technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool changer or quill is locked before inserting or removing the end mill. Seat the shank fully into the holder to the recommended gauge depth and torque the set screws or collet nut per the toolholder manufacturer specifications. Verify runout with a dial indicator before first cut; excessive runout accelerates edge wear on carbide tooling.
