The WIDIA 6470561 is a single-end carbide cutoff insert in the WGC series, designed for parting and grooving operations on CNC turning centers and lathes. It carries a 3 mm (0.1182 inch) cutting width, a neutral lead angle, and a 10.5-degree relief angle. The insert is manufactured from carbide with a WU25PT grade and finished with a PVD-applied AlTiN coating, which provides thermal resistance and wear protection during aggressive material removal. A corner radius of 0.20 mm and an F chipbreaker geometry help manage chip flow and maintain dimensional accuracy at the cut. Clamped insert holding keeps seating secure under cutting loads. Machinists and CNC turning specialists install this insert in compatible WGC-series toolholders.
This insert is primarily intended for cutting super-alloys and titanium (ISO material group S), making it well suited for aerospace, medical, and energy component work where difficult materials are common. Secondary workpiece material compatibility extends to non-ferrous metals, cast iron, stainless steel, and steel (ISO groups N, K, M, and P). Typical applications include full parting, deep grooving, and profiling cuts where a controlled 3 mm width and neutral cutting geometry are required. The insert seat size is 3, and the maximum depth of cut matches the overall insert length of 0.3791 inches.
Designed for use in WGC-series clamping toolholders that accept insert seat size 3. ANSI and ISO designation for this insert is WC030M03N00F02. Verify toolholder seat size and clamping pocket geometry before installation.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or removing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key at the manufacturer-specified clamping torque for the toolholder model in use - do not overtighten, as this can crack the carbide. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping clamp for wear or debris before seating a new insert.
