The WIDIA 6144156 is a single-end square end mill designed for precision material removal in metalworking and machining applications. Built from solid carbide and coated with TiAlN, this tool delivers hardness and thermal resistance needed for high-speed cutting in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. It features a 1/4 inch cutting diameter, 3/4 inch length of cut, and 2.5 inch overall length. The 3-flute geometry with a 30-degree right-hand helical flute provides an effective balance between chip evacuation and surface finish quality. Machinists and CNC operators in job shops, maintenance facilities, and production environments install this tool in standard milling machines and machining centers.
This end mill is suited for milling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and aluminum and non-ferrous materials. Its centercutting capability allows plunge entry directly into the workpiece. The straight cylindrical shank at 1/4 inch diameter fits standard collets and end mill holders commonly found in vertical and horizontal milling setups. The regular-length I3S series profile makes it a practical choice for general-purpose slot milling, profiling, and contouring operations where rigidity and finish quality are both priorities.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard tooling option for use in CNC machining centers and manual milling machines accepting a 1/4 inch straight-cylindrical shank end mill. Compatible workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and aluminum and non-ferrous alloys per WIDIA I3S series specifications.
A qualified machinist or CNC operator should install this end mill into a clean, properly sized collet or end mill holder, ensuring the shank is fully seated and the holder is torqued to the machine manufacturer specification. Confirm spindle direction is set to right-hand rotation before operation. Inspect the collet and toolholder for runout before beginning any cut, as excessive runout accelerates edge wear and reduces surface finish quality. Always power down and lock out the spindle before changing tooling.
