The WIDIA 5879566 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for high-performance metal removal in demanding machining applications. Built to Series I4S standards, it features a 1-inch cutting diameter and a 3-inch length of cut, making it well-suited for deep slotting, profiling, and peripheral milling operations. The 4-flute, right-hand helical geometry with a 30-degree helix angle promotes efficient chip evacuation and smooth cutting action. A TiAlN coating extends tool life by improving heat resistance and reducing friction at elevated cutting temperatures. This end mill is installed and operated by machinists and tooling professionals in CNC and manual milling environments.
This end mill is engineered for use on steel, stainless steel, and cast iron as primary workpiece materials. Secondary material compatibility includes hardened materials, aluminum and non-ferrous alloys, high-temp alloys, and additional grades of stainless steel and cast iron. With a Weldon flat shank and 1-inch shank diameter, it mounts securely in standard end mill holders and side-lock toolholders. It is a single-end tool, meaning the cutting end is not reversible. Typical applications include mold work, fixture fabrication, and general precision part machining in job shop and production settings.
Compatible with primary workpiece materials including steel, stainless steel, and cast iron. Secondary materials include hardened materials, aluminum and non-ferrous metals, high-temp alloys, and additional stainless and cast iron grades. Fits standard 1-inch end mill holders and Weldon-style side-lock toolholders.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following the machine tool manufacturer's toolholder torque and runout specifications. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is powered down before changing tooling. Seat the Weldon flat against the set screw in the holder to prevent axial pullout under cutting loads. Confirm tool projection and runout with a dial indicator before beginning cuts.
