The WIDIA 5879555 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for high-performance material removal in ferrous and non-ferrous machining applications. It features a 5/8 inch cutting diameter, a 2-1/4 inch length of cut, and a TiAlN coating that provides thermal resistance and extended tool life at elevated cutting speeds. With 4 helical flutes at a 30-degree helix angle and a right-hand cutting direction, the tool is built for aggressive yet controlled milling in production environments. A Weldon flat shank provides positive drive and minimizes slippage under load. This end mill is installed and operated by machinists and CNC tooling professionals.
The 5879555 is suited for milling steel, stainless steel, and cast iron as primary workpiece materials. Secondary applications include hardened materials, high-temp alloys, aluminum, and other non-ferrous metals. The single-end configuration and regular-length geometry make it a practical choice for general-purpose slot milling, peripheral milling, and profiling operations on vertical machining centers and CNC mills. The 5 inch overall length provides adequate reach for most standard setups without sacrificing rigidity.
Compatible with standard 5/8 inch tool holders and Weldon flat collet chucks used on CNC vertical machining centers and manual knee mills. Designed for use with steel, stainless steel, cast iron, hardened materials, high-temp alloys, and aluminum workpieces per WIDIA I4S series specifications.
Install into a 5/8 inch Weldon flat end mill holder and torque the set screw to the holder manufacturer specification, ensuring the flat on the shank aligns with the set screw. Confirm spindle runout is within acceptable tolerance before cutting to avoid premature edge wear. Power down and lock out the spindle before tooling changes. Verify compatible cutting parameters for the workpiece material before first use.
