The WIDIA 5879227 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for high-performance milling in demanding industrial applications. Built to the I4S series specification, it features a 5/8-inch cutting diameter, a 3/4-inch length of cut, and a 4-flute helical configuration with a 30-degree helix angle. The right-hand cutting and right-hand flute direction support conventional milling setups. With centercutting capability, this end mill can plunge directly into the workpiece, making it suitable for slot milling, profiling, and pocket operations. Machinists and toolroom professionals working in production or job-shop environments will find this tool well matched to their requirements.
This end mill is rated for use across a broad range of primary workpiece materials including Steel (P), Stainless Steel (M), Cast Iron (K), Non-Ferrous Metal (N), Superalloys and Titanium (S), and Hard Material (H). Its solid carbide construction supports higher cutting speeds and better rigidity compared to high-speed steel alternatives. It is suited for CNC machining centers and manual knee mills where a straight-cylindrical shank is the standard toolholder interface. The regular-length geometry and uncoated bright finish make it appropriate for general-purpose roughing and finishing passes across a wide material range.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard toolroom end mill for CNC machining centers and manual mills accepting a 5/8-inch straight-cylindrical shank. Compatible with workpiece material classes P, M, K, N, S, and H as defined by ISO turning insert designation standards.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist familiar with toolholder torque procedures and machine setup protocols. Always power down and lock out the spindle before changing tooling, following applicable OSHA lockout/tagout procedures. Ensure the shank is fully seated and properly clamped in the collet or end-mill holder to the depth specified by the toolholder manufacturer. Inspect the cutting edges for chipping or wear before each use and do not exceed the recommended depth-of-cut parameters for the workpiece material.
