The WIDIA 5879203 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precise milling operations across a wide range of metallic workpiece materials. With a 3/16-inch diameter and a 4-flute helical configuration, this tool delivers clean square-shoulder cuts and efficient chip evacuation in demanding machining environments. The 30-degree helix angle promotes smooth cutting action and helps reduce deflection during passes. At 2 inches overall length with a 5/8-inch length of cut, the 5879203 is suited for short-to-medium depth slotting, profiling, and peripheral milling tasks where rigidity and repeatability are priorities. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals working in production and job-shop settings will find this a dependable general-purpose end mill.
This end mill is rated for use on a broad set of primary workpiece materials including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials - covering ISO material codes P, M, K, N, S, and H. The bright uncoated finish makes it suitable for applications where coating interactions with the workpiece material are a consideration, or where the tool will be reground and reused. The straight-cylindrical shank accommodates standard collet and end mill holder setups on CNC machining centers and manual mills alike. It is part of the WIDIA I4S series of regular-length square end mills.
Designed as an OEM-style cutting tool compatible with standard 3/16-inch collets and end mill holders on CNC and manual milling machines. Rated for primary workpiece materials including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials per ISO codes P, M, K, N, S, and H.
Installation and tool changes should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine in a full stop and lockout-tagout procedures applied. Ensure the straight-cylindrical shank is seated fully and concentrically in the collet or end mill holder before tightening to the holder manufacturer's specification. Inspect the tool for chipping or runout prior to each use, particularly when working with hard or abrasive materials. Do not exceed the tool manufacturer's recommended speeds and feeds for the workpiece material and depth of cut being applied.
