The WIDIA 5879201 is a 4-flute solid carbide square end mill designed for precision milling in demanding shop environments. With a 1/8 inch cutting diameter and a 1/2 inch length of cut, this tool is sized for fine detail work, slotting, and profiling in tight geometries. The 30-degree right-hand helix promotes efficient chip evacuation and smooth cutting action across a wide range of workpiece materials. At 1-1/2 inches overall length and 0.009 pounds, it is compact and well-suited for CNC machining centers and manual mills where rigidity and accuracy are critical. Solid carbide construction provides the hardness and thermal resistance required for productive cuts in ferrous and non-ferrous applications.
This end mill is suited for milling operations on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials. It performs well in profiling, side milling, and slotting passes where a small-diameter tool with reliable chip clearance is required. The uncoated bright finish makes it appropriate for applications where coating interaction with the workpiece material is a concern or where regrinding is anticipated. It is part of the WIDIA I4S series, intended for general-purpose and production milling in machine shops, toolrooms, and manufacturing facilities.
The WIDIA 5879201 is designed for use in CNC machining centers and manual milling machines equipped with a 1/8 inch collet or end mill holder. Primary workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials (ISO material codes P, M, K, N, S, H).
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before changing tooling. Secure the straight-cylindrical shank in a properly sized collet or end mill holder to the tool manufacturer's recommended clamping depth. Verify runout with a dial indicator before beginning the cut, as excessive runout will reduce tool life and surface quality on small-diameter carbide tooling.
