The WIDIA 5879189 is a solid carbide square end mill engineered for high-performance milling across a broad range of workpiece materials. Built to Series I4S specifications, it features a 3/4-inch cutting diameter, 4-inch length of cut, and a 7-inch overall length with a straight-cylindrical 3/4-inch shank. The 4-flute, right-hand helical geometry runs at a 30-degree helix angle, promoting efficient chip evacuation and smooth surface finishes. A TiAlN coating adds thermal resistance and wear protection, extending tool life in demanding cutting environments. This end mill is centercutting capable, making it suitable for plunge entry as well as conventional milling passes.
This end mill is suited for machining steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials. It performs in both roughing and finishing operations on CNC machining centers and manual knee mills where a regular-length, straight-shank tool is appropriate. The right-hand cutting direction and helical flute design make it a practical choice for general-purpose production milling in job shops and manufacturing facilities. No chipbreaker or variable helix features are present, keeping the geometry straightforward for consistent, predictable performance.
Designed for use with CNC machining centers and manual milling machines equipped with standard 3/4-inch collets or end mill holders. Compatible workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials per material codes P, M, K, N, S, and H.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians. Power down and lock out the spindle before loading or unloading the tool. Seat the shank fully into the holder and torque the collet or set screws according to the toolholder manufacturer specifications. Inspect the cutting edges and coating for damage before each use; do not run a chipped or delaminated end mill.
