The WIDIA 5879136 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision material removal in demanding machining environments. With a 3/16 inch cutting diameter, 5/8 inch length of cut, and a 4-flute helical configuration, this tool delivers efficient chip evacuation and a clean square shoulder profile. The TiAlN coating provides high-temperature resistance and extended tool life in ferrous and hard-material applications. At 2 inches overall length with a straight cylindrical 3/16 inch shank, it mounts cleanly in standard collet and end mill holders. A 30-degree helix angle balances cutting forces across the flute length. Licensed machinists, tool room operators, and CNC programmers are the primary users of this series.
The WIDIA 5879136 Series I4S end mill is suited for milling operations on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials. Typical applications include slotting, profiling, and shoulder milling on CNC machining centers and manual knee mills. The regular-length geometry and right-hand cut with right-hand flute direction make it a standard choice for general-purpose cavity and contour work across job shop and production environments. It is a single-end tool, meaning the cutting end is not reversible.
Designed for use with standard 3/16 inch straight-bore collets and end mill holders on CNC machining centers and manual milling machines. Compatible workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials per Series I4S application ratings.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a safe, locked-out state before changing tooling. Seat the shank fully into the collet or holder and torque the retention system to the machine or toolholder manufacturer specification - do not estimate by feel on carbide tooling. Inspect the cutting edges for chips or coating damage before each use, as carbide end mills are brittle and should not be forced into interrupted cuts beyond their rated parameters.
