The WIDIA 5415546 is a solid carbide milling insert designed for use in positive-rake face milling and shoulder milling operations. Manufactured to ISO code XDCT110408PDERML and ANSI code XDCT1102ERML, this insert features an AlTiN coating applied via PVD process, providing thermal resistance and wear protection in demanding cutting environments. The XDCT parallelogram insert shape delivers a 75-degree included angle with a 15-degree relief angle and a honed cutting edge. It is held in place by a screw-clamp method and is intended for right-hand cutting. Machinists and toolroom professionals working with CNC milling equipment will find this insert well-suited for high-productivity applications.
This insert is engineered for machining steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium, corresponding to ISO material codes P, M, and S. It is compatible with the VSM11 cutter series and is designed for screw-on mounting in matching toolholders. The ML chip breaker geometry is optimized for light to medium depth-of-cut passes where chip control and surface finish consistency are critical. Typical applications include roughing and semi-finishing passes on CNC vertical and horizontal machining centers in job shops and production environments.
Designed for use with the VSM11 cutter series. Compatible with toolholders accepting XDCT 11-size inserts per ANSI and ISO standards. Confirm toolholder seat geometry and screw specification before installation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Use the correct torx or hex key specified by the toolholder manufacturer when torquing the clamping screw - do not over-tighten, as this can fracture the carbide insert or damage the pocket seat. Inspect the insert pocket for chips, debris, or wear before seating a new insert.
