The WIDIA 4172955 is a CNMG432MR indexable turning insert manufactured from carbide and coated with a multilayer CVD system consisting of TiN, TiCN, Al2O3, and TiOCN. It carries the manufacturer grade WM25CT and an ISO material grade of M25, positioning it primarily for machining stainless steel. The insert features a neutral hand orientation, a negative rake geometry, and a honed cutting edge style. With an inscribed circle of 0.5000 inches, an insert length of 0.5077 inches, a thickness of 0.1875 inches, and a corner radius of 0.0312 inches, it fits standard CNMG-MR toolholders. Eight cutting edges are available per insert, maximizing tool utilization on the shop floor.
This insert is suited for turning operations in production and job-shop environments where stainless steel is the primary workpiece material. Secondary workpiece materials include carbon and alloy steel as well as super-alloys and titanium. The MR chip breaker geometry and MTCVD multilayer coating are engineered for consistent chip control and tool life in medium to moderate cutting conditions. Machinists and CNC turning specialists will find this insert appropriate for both roughing and semi-finish passes on stainless and similar difficult-to-machine alloys.
Designed for use in CNMG-MR series toolholders that accept a 432 insert size with clamp or pin clamping. ISO code CNMG120408MR and industry standard number CNMG432MR apply. Conforms to ANSI and ISO standards for CNMG insert geometry.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Always power down and lock out the machine before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench and manufacturer-specified screw hardware when seating the insert in the toolholder pocket to ensure proper clamping without damaging the insert or seat. Inspect the toolholder pocket and seating surfaces for chips or wear before installing a fresh insert.
