The WIDIA 4171504 is a CNMG432RH WP25CT-grade carbide turning insert designed for general turning operations on steel and cast iron workpieces. It carries a multilayer CVD coating stack - TiN, TiCN, Al2O3, and ZrCN - applied via MT-CVD process to extend wear resistance and tool life under continuous and interrupted cutting conditions. The insert features an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape, a negative rake geometry, and a honed cutting edge with an RH chip breaker. With 8 usable cutting edges, this insert delivers consistent cost-per-edge performance in production turning environments. Typical installers are CNC machinists and tool-room technicians working on lathes and turning centers.
This insert is intended for turning applications on steel (ISO P25 material grade) and cast iron (ISO K). The RH chip breaker geometry is suited for medium-depth roughing and semi-finishing passes. The neutral hand orientation allows use on standard CNMG-style toolholders without orientation restrictions. It is appropriate for both light production and job-shop environments where consistent chip control on ferrous materials is required. The insert conforms to ANSI and ISO standards and carries the ISO designation CNMG120408RH, also referenced by the industry standard number CNMG432RH.
Designed for use in CNMG-style clamp-and-pin toolholders accepting a 0.5 inch inscribed circle insert with a 3/16 inch thickness. Compatible toolholders must accommodate the CNMG432 insert size code. Primary workpiece materials are steel (ISO P) and cast iron (ISO K).
Installation is performed by machinists on CNC or manual lathes using the appropriate CNMG clamp-and-pin toolholder. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the toolholder is secured in the turret before seating or indexing the insert. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surfaces for chips or debris before clamping to ensure proper insert support and edge repeatability. Follow the toolholder manufacturer torque specifications for the clamping screw.
