The WIDIA 4171057 is a WNMG431FF-style carbide turning insert designed for external and internal turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries a multilayer CVD coating stack of TiN, TiCN, Al2O3, and ZrCN, applied via MTCVD process for wear resistance and thermal stability. The manufacturer grade is WP15CT, rated for a P15 material grade targeting steel as the primary workpiece material. The insert features an 80-degree trigon shape, a neutral hand orientation, and an FF chip breaker geometry with a honed cutting edge style. Six cutting edges are available per insert. It is intended for use by machinists and tooling technicians in production turning environments.
This insert is optimized for turning steel and cast iron workpieces in light-to-medium roughing and finishing applications. The FF chip breaker geometry is suited for continuous cuts at moderate feed rates where chip control and surface finish are both priorities. The negative rake and 0-degree relief angle (clearance code N) are characteristic of mechanically clamped toolholders using clamp or pin holding methods. This insert is appropriate for both job-shop and production floor use on standard CNC turning equipment.
Designed for use in WNMG-style toolholders that accept clamp or pin insert holding methods with a clearance code N and tolerance code M. Compatible with ANSI and ISO standard WNMG431 / WNMG080404 insert pockets. Primary workpiece material is steel (ISO code P); secondary workpiece material is cast iron (ISO code K).
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or removing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench or screwdriver per the toolholder manufacturer's specifications when securing the clamp or pin. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before installing a new edge to ensure proper seating and dimensional accuracy.
