Product Description

The WIDIA 4143974 is a solid carbide screw machine length drill bit designed for high-productivity drilling in metalworking applications. At 9/32 inches (0.2813 inches) in diameter, it features a 140-degree web-thinned point that reduces thrust force at entry and improves centering accuracy. The TiAlN coating adds heat resistance and extends tool life in demanding cut conditions. With an overall length of 3-7/64 inches and a flute length of 1-39/64 inches, this bit fits standard screw machine setups where compact, rigid tooling is preferred. It is suited for machinists, tool and die technicians, and CNC operators running production drilling cycles.

This drill bit is rated for general purpose drilling in a range of workpiece materials including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum and non-ferrous metals, and high-temperature alloys. The screw machine length format provides added rigidity compared to jobber length bits, making it well suited for close-tolerance drilling in production environments, manual drill presses, CNC machining centers, and turret lathes. The straight cylindrical shank at 0.3150 inches diameter seats securely in standard drill chucks and collet holders.

Key Features

  • Solid carbide construction for rigidity and wear resistance in hard and abrasive materials
  • TiAlN coating increases surface hardness and thermal resistance, extending tool life at higher cutting speeds
  • 140-degree web-thinned point reduces entry thrust and improves hole location accuracy
  • Screw machine length body (3-7/64 inches OAL) provides greater rigidity than jobber length alternatives
  • Regular spiral flute geometry with 2 flutes promotes efficient chip evacuation in through-hole drilling
  • Right-hand cutting direction for standard spindle rotation; no coolant-through required

Compatibility

Designed as a general purpose screw machine length drill bit compatible with steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum and non-ferrous metals, and high-temperature alloys; part of the WIDIA VDS201A series.

Installation Notes

Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians familiar with cutting tool setup procedures. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before mounting or removing the bit. Verify the drill chuck or collet is rated for the 0.3150-inch straight shank diameter and is properly torqued before starting a cut. Do not exceed the recommended maximum drilling depth of 1.14 inches without retracting to clear chips.
