The WIDIA 4140253 is a solid carbide screw machine length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in demanding shop and field environments. Measuring 11/16 inches (0.6875 inches) in diameter with a 140-degree thinned point, the bit cuts cleanly through steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, and superalloys including titanium. A TiAlN coating reduces heat buildup and extends tool life at elevated cutting speeds. At 4.8425 inches overall length with a 2.874-inch helical flute, this is a compact, stub-style bit suited for close-clearance applications and high-cycle production work. Coolant-through capability supports chip evacuation in deep or blind-hole operations. Licensed trades and machining professionals install and operate this tooling.
The 4140253 is built for general-purpose production drilling across a range of workpiece materials. Its screw machine (stub) length format provides added rigidity compared to jobber-length bits, making it well-suited for CNC machining centers, drill presses, and manual machine operations where runout control and hole accuracy are priorities. The right-hand cut, cylindrical shank at 0.7087 inches diameter fits standard toolholders and chucks. A maximum drilling depth of 2.0079 inches and a 3xD flute-to-diameter ratio position this bit for moderate-depth applications in production and maintenance environments.
Designed as a general-purpose OEM-style drill bit compatible with steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metal, and superalloys and titanium workpieces. Fits standard drill chucks and toolholders accepting a 0.7087-inch cylindrical shank. Part of the WIDIA VDS401A series.
This bit is installed and operated by machinists, toolroom technicians, and maintenance trades using CNC equipment, drill presses, or manual machines. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before changing tooling. Secure the cylindrical shank firmly in a properly sized chuck or collet to minimize runout. When using coolant-through capability, confirm the machine coolant system is compatible with the toolholder and that coolant pressure is set per the machine manufacturer's guidelines.
