The WIDIA 3607414 is a Top Notch style carbide grooving insert designed for single-end grooving and turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured to ANSI/ISO code NGD4250RK, it carries a 0.25 inch cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 0.5 inch. The insert is ground in grade TN6025 carbide with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating and a positive 10-degree rake angle, which reduces cutting forces and supports longer tool life in demanding materials. It is clamped into compatible Top Notch toolholders and is suited for machinists and toolroom operators working in production or job-shop environments.
This insert is used for external and internal grooving as well as turning across a broad range of workpiece materials, including stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, super-alloys, titanium, and carbon and alloy steels. The NGD-K series chip breaker geometry is engineered to promote controlled chip formation in these materials, reducing the risk of chip packing in the groove. It is a right-hand insert, size code 4, with a cutting height of 0.5 inch. Typical applications include groove-turning on production runs where consistent width and depth control are required.
Designed for use with Top Notch grooving and turning toolholders that accept size 4 NGD-K series inserts. Consult the WIDIA NGD-K toolholder selection guide to confirm seat size and clamping compatibility before ordering.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians. Shut down the machine spindle and confirm zero rotation before seating or removing the insert. Use the correct clamp screw torque per the toolholder manufacturer's specification - do not over-torque, as carbide inserts are brittle and will crack under excess clamping force. Inspect the insert seat and clamp for chips or contamination before seating a new insert to ensure proper contact and repeatable cutting geometry.
