The WIDIA 3607153 is a Top Notch style grooving insert designed for precision grooving and turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured from carbide with a TiAlN coating applied via PVD process, this insert carries the WIDIA Manufacturer Grade TN6010 and delivers a cutting width of 0.0310 inches (0.790 mm) with a maximum depth of cut of 0.0500 inches (1.27 mm). The right-hand orientation, neutral rake, and clamp-style holding method make it a reliable choice for machinists running tight-tolerance grooves in production environments. Two cutting edges extend tool life before indexing is required.
This insert is suited for grooving and turning applications on a range of workpiece materials including steel, cast iron, stainless steel, super-alloys, titanium, and non-ferrous metals. The PVD TiAlN coating provides wear resistance across these varied material types. It is sized as an NG Insert Size Code 2 and carries the ANSI and ISO designation NG2031R, making it compatible with toolholders designed around that standard seat size. Typical installations are found in production turning shops, aerospace component machining, and general precision machining environments where narrow groove widths and controlled depth are critical.
Designed for use with Top Notch grooving toolholders that accept NG Insert Seat Size 2 (ANSI/ISO code NG2031R). Suitable for grooving and turning applications on steel, cast iron, stainless steel, super-alloys, titanium, and non-ferrous metals.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or indexing the insert. Ensure the clamp and toolholder seat are clean and free of chips or debris before securing the insert to prevent seating errors. Always verify insert orientation - this is a right-hand insert - before resuming cuts.
