The WIDIA 2830724 is a carbide boring insert designed for precision internal turning and boring operations on CNC and manual lathes. Coated with Titanium Nitride (TiN) via a PVD process, this insert carries the CG5 micrograin carbide grade for wear resistance and edge integrity. It features an 80-degree diamond shape with a positive rake geometry and a 15-degree relief angle, making it well suited for finishing and semi-finishing cuts in tight-tolerance bores. The insert holds a 0.007-inch corner radius and an inscribed circle of 0.1562 inches. Installation is secured via screw clamp, and cutting direction is left hand. Licensed machinists and CNC operators in job shop and production environments install this insert type.
This insert is applied in boring operations on a wide range of workpiece materials, including steel, stainless steel, non-ferrous alloys, and superalloys, as indicated by its universal primary material classification covering material codes M, N, P, and S. Cast iron is listed as a secondary workpiece material (code K). It is suited for residential and commercial precision machining environments where consistent bore geometry and surface finish are required. Maximum depth of cut is 0.1049 inches, keeping the insert in its intended finishing and light roughing role.
Designed for use in boring bar holders conforming to ANSI code CDHH120605L and ISO code CDHHS4T002L. Compatible with boring systems in the CDHH series. Verify holder specification and screw-clamp configuration before installation.
This insert is installed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Seat the insert fully in the pocket and torque the clamping screw to the boring bar manufacturer's specification using the correct Torx or hex key. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw threads for wear or debris before installation to ensure accurate seating and prevent premature insert failure.
