The WIDIA 2827537 is a carbide turning insert in the GCHT series, designed for precision single-point turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. The insert features a physical vapor deposition (PVD) TiN coating over a submicron carbide substrate in manufacturer grade CG5, giving it wear resistance suited for finishing and semi-finishing passes. It carries a 45-degree rhombic diamond shape (ISO shape code G), a neutral hand orientation, and a honed cutting edge style with a 0.0071-inch corner radius. With four usable cutting edges, it delivers consistent performance across tool changes in high-volume turning environments.
This insert is engineered for turning steel, stainless steel, non-ferrous metals, and superalloys including titanium as primary workpiece materials, with cast iron listed as a secondary application. It is suited for light-to-moderate depths of cut in both production and job-shop turning scenarios. The screw-clamping hold method and standard ANSI and ISO geometries make it a drop-in fit for compatible GCHT-style toolholders already in the shop. It is installed and changed by machinists and CNC operators in precision machining environments.
Designed for use in GCHT-series screw-clamp toolholders conforming to ANSI and ISO standards. ISO code GCHT060202 and industry standard number GCHT151505 identify the insert geometry for toolholder matching. Compatible primary workpiece materials include steel (P), stainless steel (M), non-ferrous metal (N), and superalloys and titanium (S), with cast iron (K) as a secondary material.
Insert changes are performed by machinists or CNC operators with the machine fully stopped and the spindle locked. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key to seat and torque the clamping screw per the toolholder manufacturer specification. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before seating a new insert. Confirm insert orientation and hand before resuming cutting to avoid part scrap or toolholder damage.
