The WIDIA 2824316 is a WPGT-style trigon boring insert manufactured from micrograin carbide with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating applied via PVD process. The insert features an 80-degree included angle, a 0.015-inch corner radius, a 0.250-inch inscribed circle, and a thickness of 0.094 inches. With 11 degrees of relief angle and a positive rake geometry, it is engineered for boring operations where dimensional accuracy and edge integrity matter. Three cutting edges per insert make it a cost-effective choice for high-volume production environments. Installation is via screw-holding method, and the neutral cutting direction suits a wide range of setups.
This insert is suited for use in boring bars and toolholders designed to accept WPGT-style inserts. It is applicable in both CNC and manual turning operations targeting steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and non-ferrous metals. The CG5 micrograin carbide grade with TiN coating supports moderate-to-high cutting speeds where surface finish and tool life are priorities. Machinists and toolroom professionals working on production boring, fine finishing, or precision diameter control will find this insert appropriate for those applications.
Designed for use in toolholders and boring bars accepting WPGT-style inserts per ANSI code WPHT2151 and ISO code WPHT040204. Compatible workpiece materials include steel (P), stainless steel (M), cast iron (K), and non-ferrous metals (N).
This insert is installed and indexed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use a torx or hex key appropriate to the toolholder screw size and follow the toolholder manufacturer's clamping sequence. Inspect seating pockets for chips or debris before seating the new insert to ensure proper contact and accurate tool offset.
