The WIDIA 2823914 is a TPHH-style triangular carbide boring insert with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating applied via PVD process. Designed for precision boring operations, the insert features a 60-degree included angle, a 0.007-inch corner radius, and an 11-degree relief angle with a positive rake geometry. The CG5 micrograin carbide grade provides wear resistance across a broad range of workpiece materials. With three cutting edges per insert and screw-style holding, this neutral-hand insert suits high-volume production environments as well as job-shop boring applications. Licensed machinists and CNC operators are the primary users.
This insert is rated for universal primary workpiece materials, covering steel, stainless, non-ferrous, and superalloys (ANSI material codes M, N, P, S), with cast iron (code K) as a rated secondary material. It fits boring bars and toolholders designed for TPHH-style inserts with a 0.25-inch inscribed circle. The TPHH21505 geometry is standardized under both ANSI code TPHH21505 and ISO code TPHH110202, allowing cross-reference across tooling catalogs. Typical applications include finish and semi-finish boring on lathes, machining centers, and dedicated boring machines.
Designed for toolholders accepting TPHH-style inserts with a 0.25-inch inscribed circle and screw-style clamping. Conforms to ANSI standard TPHH21505 and ISO standard TPHH110202. Compatible with boring operations on steel, stainless steel, non-ferrous alloys, superalloys, and cast iron workpiece materials.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists following standard insert-change procedures. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or removing the insert. Use the manufacturer-specified torx or hex key to tighten the clamping screw to toolholder specifications - do not over-torque. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surfaces for chips or debris before installing a new insert to ensure correct seating and edge repeatability.
