The WIDIA 2821208 is a triangular carbide boring insert designed for precision internal turning and boring operations on CNC and manual machines. Manufactured to the TPCG insert style with a left-hand cutting direction, this insert features a TiN coating applied via PVD process over a micrograin carbide substrate in grade CG5. Key working geometry includes a 60-degree included angle, a 0.007-inch corner radius, and a positive rake with an 11-degree relief angle. The screw-lock holding method and three cutting edges per insert make it a reliable choice for production boring applications. Typical users include machinists and toolroom technicians working with precision boring heads and boring bars.
This insert is suited for boring applications across a range of workpiece materials, including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and non-ferrous metals. The left-hand cutting direction is appropriate for specific boring bar orientations where conventional right-hand inserts are not compatible. The 0.375-inch inscribed circle and 0.125-inch thickness conform to standard TPCG insert pockets. Maximum depth of cut is 0.426 inches, making it appropriate for light to moderate material removal in bore finishing and semi-finishing passes. It meets both ANSI and ISO standards, with ANSI code TPHH3205L and ISO code TPHH160302L.
Designed to fit TPCG-style insert pockets in the TPHH-L series boring bar system. Compatible with workpiece materials including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and non-ferrous metals. Conforms to ANSI standard TPHH3205L and ISO standard TPHH160302L. Left-hand cutting direction - verify bar and pocket orientation before installation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Ensure the boring bar and machine spindle are fully powered down and locked out before seating or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to secure the clamping screw to the tool manufacturer's specified seating torque as listed in the boring bar documentation. Inspect the insert pocket for chips, debris, or wear before seating a new insert to ensure full, flat contact.
