The WIDIA 2821162 is a TPCG-style carbide boring insert designed for precision metal-cutting operations on CNC lathes and boring bars. Coated with Titanium Nitride (TiN) via a PVD process, it delivers improved surface hardness and wear resistance over uncoated carbide. The insert features a 60-degree triangular shape with three cutting edges, a 0.375-inch inscribed circle, a 0.125-inch thickness, and a 0.015-inch corner radius. Grade CG5 micrograin carbide provides the substrate. The left-hand cutting direction and positive rake geometry make this insert suited for fine boring passes where surface finish and dimensional accuracy are priorities. A licensed machinist or toolroom technician is the typical installer.
This insert is used in screw-held boring bar systems requiring a left-hand, TPCG-style triangular insert. It is applicable to a range of secondary workpiece materials including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and non-ferrous metals. It is well suited for both roughing and finishing passes on CNC turning centers and manual lathes where a positive-rake, chipbreaker-equipped insert is specified. The Series TPHH-L toolholder family is the associated holder series. Maximum depth of cut is 0.42 inches. ANSI code is TPHH321L and ISO code is TPHH160304L.
Compatible with TPHH-L series screw-held boring bar toolholders. Conforms to ANSI code TPHH321L and ISO code TPHH160304L. Designed for left-hand cutting setups on CNC lathes and boring bars machining steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and non-ferrous metals. Minimum order quantity is 10 units; package quantity is 1.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician familiar with indexable insert tooling. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Seat the insert fully against the pocket and tighten the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified torque using the appropriate Torx or hex driver. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw for wear or damage before seating a new insert.
