Western Digital WD22PURZ Purple 2TB Surveillance Hdd

Product Description

The WESTERN DIGITAL WD22PURZ is a 2TB hard disk drive engineered for continuous-duty surveillance applications. Built under the WD Purple product line, this drive is designed to handle the high-write workloads generated by security camera systems and digital video recorders. Unlike standard desktop drives, it is optimized for always-on operation and sequential write cycles typical of video surveillance environments. Security system integrators and low-voltage technicians are the primary installers. The 2TB capacity supports extended recording retention without frequent drive swaps, making it a practical choice for small to mid-size surveillance deployments.

This drive is suited for residential and light commercial surveillance installations. It fits into DVR and NVR enclosures that accept standard 3.5-inch SATA hard drives. Typical applications include IP camera systems, analog HD camera recorders, and standalone security appliances. Installations with continuous 24/7 recording cycles benefit from a drive rated for this duty profile rather than a general-purpose desktop unit.

Installation Notes

Installation is typically performed by low-voltage security technicians or qualified system integrators. Power down the DVR or NVR completely and disconnect power before removing or installing any hard drive. Secure the drive using the mounting screws specified by the enclosure manufacturer and connect the SATA data and power cables firmly before powering the unit back on. Allow the recorder to format the new drive before placing the system back into service.
