The WEST PENN WIRE D975RD0500 is an 18 AWG, 2-conductor solid-conductor FPL-rated shielded cable designed for fire alarm and life-safety signaling systems. The FPL (Fire Power Limited) rating qualifies this cable for use in power-limited fire alarm circuits as defined by the National Electrical Code. The shielded construction provides protection against electromagnetic interference, which is critical in environments where signal integrity must be maintained across long cable runs. This 500-foot spool is a standard unit of issue for fire alarm installers working on commercial and residential projects requiring reliable, code-compliant wiring.
This cable is used in power-limited fire alarm circuits, including initiating device circuits, notification appliance circuits, and signaling line circuits where shielding is specified. It is suited for installation in commercial buildings, industrial facilities, and multi-family residential structures. The solid conductor construction is appropriate for permanent in-wall or conduit runs where the cable will not be subject to repeated flexing. Licensed fire alarm technicians and electrical contractors are the primary installers of this product.
Designed as an FPL-rated replacement or new-installation cable for power-limited fire alarm systems requiring shielded 18 AWG 2-conductor solid wire per NEC Article 760 specifications.
Installation must be performed by a licensed electrician or certified fire alarm technician in accordance with NEC Article 760 and applicable local codes. De-energize the fire alarm control panel and lock out the circuit before terminating conductors. Solid conductors are intended for fixed runs in conduit or behind walls and should not be used in applications requiring repeated movement or flexing. Maintain minimum bend radius and avoid running signal cable parallel to high-voltage power conductors to preserve shielding effectiveness.
